The ‘clickable logo’ on this website is a mandatory requirement of our regulator, the Solicitors Regulation Authority. It contains embedded software taking you to an SRA-hosted page which confirms that we are regulated and outlines what protections this regulated status provides. The SRA has stated that it does not have access, record or store any additional data such as IP addresses or page navigation behaviour, and that it does not collect data that would identify an individual. A solicitor specialising in technology is reported as saying that the system’s design involves the processing of data by technology supplier Yoshki, and does not ask users to give their consent. Yoshki’s system is based in turn on technology developed by Google which, he says, ‘is in the business of harvesting personal data’. Hatch Legal does not accept liability for use of the SRA clickable logo.

GENERAL

There’s often lots of advice available for free on this website.  Have a look at our Resources pages for useful guides and checklists.  Colleagues in the higher education sector can also subscribe to our monthly newsletter free of charge (see left).

We operate a retrospective discount scheme to reward loyal clients - the more business you send our way, the less you will pay for it.

We’re happy to quote a fixed fee for suitable types of work.   Examples of fixed fees for business leases, training and residential evictions are given on the next pages (or select from the menu on the right).  Fixed fees are available for other types of work – contact us for further details.

Sometimes it’s difficult to work out a fixed price in advance and we will explain why a fixed fee is not available for those cases. If we can’t offer a fixed fee, we will charge on the basis of the time spent working for you, and explain the applicable hourly rates.  These range from £100 to £185 per hour + VAT.   These are below the rates that are suggested by the courts as being reasonable for people of our experience.  Hourly rates will take into account factors such as risk, complexity and urgency. We will always give you our best estimate of the likely cost at the outset, tell you promptly if our initial estimate may need to be varied, and explain why.

We may ask for some money up front, before we start work for you.  Credit terms are 30 days.  We bill you monthly so that you can keep track of your legal expenses.  If you have litigation or a complex transaction that runs for more than 3 months, we will write to you each quarter confirming progress on your case against time and financial targets.

We will separate our fees for the work we have done from the charges which we have to pay people on your behalf (such as Stamp Duty Land Tax). We will tell you what VAT you can expect to pay. We will always be willing to answer openly any questions you have about our charges and give you a breakdown if required. You have the right to complain about your bill, and details of how to do this are printed on the back of each bill.

When you ask for information on prices, we will explain whether we are giving you a quotation (fixed price) or an estimate (which may change), so that you have the information you need to compare our prices with other providers.  Remember, at Hatch Legal you always get advice from a qualified solicitor.
